How to Get Rid of Water Mold in Your Pool

Does your pool have white tissue paper-like residue floating on the surface? Is it accompanied by pink slime around the pool’s waterline? It sounds like you have a mold problem in your pool. Fortunately, this is a fixable issue, and you can also prevent pool molding in the future.

White Water Mold & Pink Slime?

White water mold is a type of fungus. Although there is a low chance of getting sick from water mold, it isn’t something you want to have in your pool.

You’ve probably seen pink slime in bathrooms. The formal name for the slime is serraita marcescens. It’s an airborne bacteria that feeds on minerals and fatty deposits in soap and shampoos. It can be hazardous as it causes illness. If recognized, it is vital to rid your pool of this bacteria.

How To Clean

White water mold or pink smile can occur in your pool when the water isn’t correctly balanced, or your pool is simply not clean. Cleaning your pool should be a consistent task to prevent these molds and bacteria from growing and spreading. Here are a few tips on how to clean your pool from bacteria:

Clean The Filter

If there is white water mold in your pool, it is most likely in your filter too. Thoroughly clean your pool’s filter to be reused later; the cleanliness of your pool won't be as effective with a mold-infested filter.

Balance The Water

It is essential to balance the PH of the water in your pool. A PH of 7.4-7.6 is ideal for the pool water.

Chlorine Shock Pool

A regular dosage of chlorine will not be effective in this type of situation. Add 3-4 pounds of calcium hypochlorite per 10,0000 gallons to shock your pool from the bacteria correctly.
